How does an India-based engineering partner work on US Eastern Time?
Ajinkya Technologies serves US manufacturers on Eastern Time hours. Our engineering day in Belagavi and Bengaluru starts at 6 PM IST, which is 8 AM Eastern Time. Core overlap hours are 8 AM to 12 PM Eastern (6 PM to 10 PM IST), with a second optional window at 3 PM Eastern (12:30 AM IST) for end-of-US-day handoffs. Discovery calls, design reviews, sprint reviews and UAT sessions are all scheduled in Eastern Time. Overnight India-time work means US-side mornings begin with results, not questions.
What the working day actually looks like
For a US client in the Eastern time zone, a typical sprint day looks like this. 8 AM ET: daily stand-up (15 minutes). The India team reports what was completed overnight, what is in progress, and any blockers. The US-side product owner approves or adjusts priorities.
12 PM ET: asynchronous update via Slack or Teams. Demo or test environment is updated with the morning build. US-side reviews at their convenience.
5 PM ET (optional): brief sync if a US decision is needed before the next India morning. This is the only window outside the core 8 AM to 12 PM overlap. For critical path items such as UAT and go-live, we roster an on-call engineer who is available from 6 AM to 10 AM ET.
What time-zone overlap covers and what it does not
The 4-hour overlap (8 AM to 12 PM ET) covers daily stand-ups, design reviews, problem resolution calls, and most UAT sessions. Sprint demos take 45 to 60 minutes and fit in this window.
What it does not cover: emergency production support outside ET business hours requires a pre-agreed on-call arrangement with a US-based partner for ITAR-sensitive or safety-critical systems. For non-ITAR commercial systems, our India team responds within 2 hours at any time of day.
Practical communication setup
Standard tools: Microsoft Teams or Slack for asynchronous communication, GitHub or Azure DevOps for code and tasks, Confluence for documentation, and your preferred video platform for synchronous sessions. We provision all of these in the first week.
For US engagements with data-residency requirements, we operate in US-hosted cloud environments (AWS US East, Azure East US) with access logs available to the US-side team at any time.
